Individual patients may not be able to use a commercially available medicine. Our pharmacists work with other health care professionals to compound an easier to use product avoiding possible costly problems, such as, emergency room visits, hospitalizations, and lost time from work or school.
  • Unavailable Dose - A physician may prescribe a medication as 30 mg dose, but commercially is only available as a 25 mg or 50 mg dose. Taking too little medication may prove to be ineffective while taking too much medication could cause adverse reactions. We can compound a dosage that the physician finds is "the best" dose for the patient.

  • Unavailable Dose Forms - Many times medications are available only as tablets or capsules, but infants or persons with swallowing difficulties may need an alternate dosage form. We can compound liquids, troches, suppositories, or other forms that will contain the medication these patients need.

  • Medicine Unavailable - Due to limited demands, pharmaceutical companies may quit manufacturing a specific product(s). Some patients may still require these products. If we can acquire these medications in their chemical form, we can compound a product containing the same amount of medication as was in the discontinued product.

  • Medicine Tastes Bad - Many times a medication is available in only one flavor. If the patient finds this flavor disagreeable they may not take the medication. This creates a special problem when a medication must be taken several months or years for a chronic health problem. We can compound in flavors patients like and can even vary the flavor occasionally.

  • Complicated/Inconvenient - A patient may have a problem that requires treatment with several different medications. For example: three single ingredient creams for a skin condition. We can compound all three medications into one cream making a medicine much more convenient to use.
